Hey Sports Fans!
We got a nice long weekend ahead of us.
This weekend typically=
marks the beginning of "summer" for most everyone else who goes =
to the beaches and bays and ocean.
We've been out there y=
ear-round non-stop, as if there was a break in the paddling world, right? B=
ut we don't "own" rights to the waterways.
In any case, this mess=
age is to remind you that the couch potatoes will be out enforce.
Be aware of them as th=
ey will not be looking (out) for you.
They throw down a few =
beers, sit out in the sun and then decide they want to jump on that jetski,=
wave runner, motorboat.
And then we have the m=
akings of a potential disaster. It' s like the scene in "Jaws", r=
emember? when everyone wanted to hunt for the shark, and boats were over-lo=
aded, and banging into each other, drivers were
drinnking.. ay-yi-yi!
Don’t let yourse=
lves get caught up in that. Just a few simple reminders of what some or all=
of you are already doing?
- plan your workouts when=
it is least likely to be dangerous and crowded;
- don’t go out alone;
- If you must go alone-leave a float p=
lan at your vehicle (and follow the plan that you left behind!);
- bring a cell phone with you-=
(add the lifeguard number to your favorites), or bring a vhf radio;
<=
li>if you have to use your =
mp3 player - plug in one ear only- or keep the volume low so you can remain=
audibly aware of your surroundings.
Play safe folks! You c=
an enjoy the weekends to come if you play safe this weekend.
Cuz, we're looking for=
ward to seeing EVERYONE at the Kahanamoku Klassic on the 31st.
